Why it works

Chocolate brown is the constant. It shows up in the blazer, the trousers, the skirt, the dress and the sweater, so no matter which two or three pieces you put together, the base note is already agreed.

Cream lightens it before it gets heavy. An all-brown outfit reads monastic. Break it with the cream top or the cream sweater and it reads considered instead.

Denim blue is the only piece doing something different, and that is the point. The jeans and the scarf are what keep this from looking like a uniform — they're the one note that isn't brown or cream, so the eye has somewhere to land.
