Ease & Aura

About

Fewer pieces, chosen properly

Ease & Aura is a small independent site about building a wardrobe that works — not about buying more of it.

What this site is

Ease & Aura publishes capsule wardrobe edits: a short, closed set of pieces that go together, with the exact items named and the reason each one was chosen written down.

Most shopping content is a list. A list tells you what to buy but not why one option is better than another, and it never tells you what the piece is actually made of. That is the gap this site exists to fill. Every edit says what the fibre is, what the size range is, and where the money is worth spending versus where it is not.

The site is run by one person. It is not a magazine, it is not a brand, and it does not hold inventory. Nothing here is sponsored, and no brand pays to be included.

How pieces are chosen

Every piece has to pass all five of these before it appears in an edit. If a piece fails one, it does not go in — regardless of price, brand or how well it photographs.

01 · Fibre

The composition is read before anything else. Natural or natural-dominant fibres are preferred — cotton, wool, cashmere, linen, silk, leather. Acrylic and pure polyester in a knit are a fail. When a synthetic is included deliberately, such as vegan leather or elastane in a trouser, it is named on the page so you can decide for yourself.

02 · Construction

How the piece is put together: seam finishing, lining, hardware, hem allowance, and whether the shape holds after wear. A well-cut inexpensive piece beats a badly cut expensive one, and gets recommended over it.

03 · Size range

The average American woman wears a size 16. A piece offered only in XS–L is a narrower recommendation than one offered through 3X, and it is treated that way. Extended-size and petite alternates are named wherever a good one exists, and the size range is printed on every product so you are not clicking through to find out.

04 · Cost per wear

Price is judged against how many times a piece will realistically be worn, not against its own discount. A $130 sweater worn weekly for five winters is cheaper than a $30 sweater replaced every year. Where the cheaper option genuinely wins, the cheaper option is the recommendation.

05 · Availability

Every piece is checked in stock, in a reasonable spread of sizes, on the day the edit is published, and the date is printed at the bottom of the page. Prices move and stock sells through; when a piece goes, it is replaced rather than left broken.

How this site makes money

Affiliate commission, and nothing else. When you buy something through a link here, the retailer pays Ease & Aura a small percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid going direct.

No brand pays for placement. There is no sponsored content, no paid review, no gifted-product coverage and no advertising. A piece is in an edit because it passed the five criteria above, or it is not in the edit.

Commission rates do not decide the recommendation. Several pieces recommended here pay less than alternatives that were rejected. That is the point — if the rate picked the products, the criteria would be decoration.

Every affiliate link is disclosed on the page it appears on, and in the site-wide disclosure at the foot of this page.

Who writes it

I am Reena Dutta. I come to clothing from systems rather than from styling — my working life has been spent building things that reduce decisions rather than add them, and a capsule wardrobe is exactly that problem: a small number of well-chosen inputs producing a large number of good outcomes.

I hold an MBA and an MPH from Columbia University, I have written three books, I am a licensed REALTOR® in California, and I run MindRocket Systems LLC, which builds software. Ease & Aura is where I apply the same thinking to the part of the day most people would rather not think about.

I am not a stylist and I do not pretend to be. What I do is read the composition label, check the size range, work out the cost per wear, and write down the reasoning so you can disagree with it.
